Read to fish

In a continuing effort to affect change in the lives of women and children living in rural Ghana, the Ceciyaa Foundation has launched the Read to Fish campaign which offers children in rural areas the opportunity for both literacy education and work which provides food for their family.

As a part of this initiative, the Ceciyaa Foundation has renovated a building in Akropong, Ghana for use as a community library. Generous donations of books from our supporters here at home have provided a supply of books to begin stocking the facility, but more books and buildings are needed.

Here’s How It Works…

Children who participate in the program are given the opportunity to read books. They are monitored and assisted by library volunteers who keep track of their progress for improvement in literacy as well as for the number of books read.

When a child reaches a milestone, they are rewarded with a “Ticket” which grants them access to the local fish farm where they are allowed to fish. Whatever they catch, they are allowed to take home to feed their families.
